When the first “Mummy” came out back in 1999, I was semi-impressed. I felt the film was filled with cheesy humor despite impressive effects as well as a charming male and female lead in Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The next film came plummeting downhill for the most part and introduced the “Scorpion King” character which opened up the way for a film of the same title starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This was then followed up by the recent straight-to-video release “The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior” starring Michael Copon and wannabe actor Randy Couture of Ufc fame.

Smallville’s fathers, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, have been signed to adapt Robotech into a live-action feature for Warner Bros. No director, cast or production dates have been released.
The 1980s anime series ran in America courtesy of Harmony Gold USA and was one of the first noteworthy anime series from that era. It was actually the combination of three separate series created by Tatsunoko Prods. In order to satisfy the needs of American television syndication.
As a result, it became a “sprawling sci-fi epic, Robotech takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off an alien invasion, with the fate of the human race ending up in the hands of two young pilots.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Akiva Goldsman and Chuck

Columbia Pictures is moving forward with xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and has hired writers Michael Ferris and John Brancato after hearing a pitch last Friday. Ferris and Brancato's past films include The Net, The Game, Terminator 3, Catwoman, Primeval, and the upcoming Terminator Salvation. They're definitely not new to this industry, nor are they most talented writers (Catwoman?!), so this doesn't exactly make this reboot look any better. We've neglected writing much about this franchise before, but I thought this update was worth mentioning - just to emphasize how bad this will probably be. As previously announced, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will be about the return of the first Xander Cage and star Vin Diesel again. Hack director Rob Cohen (of Stealth and The Mummy 3) will also be back to helm this reboot. I'm amazed that we can even call it a reboot, given it was

It looks like Lawrence Kasdan’s Robotech script isn’t good enough for Warner Brothers. According to the trades, the studio has instead signed Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to pen the upcoming adaptation of the classic anime. A sprawling sci-fi epic, Robotech takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off an alien invasion, with the fate of the human race ending up in the hands of two young pilots. Robotech was a 1980s cartoon series from Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Prods. It was re-edited and re-dialogued to combine three Japanese anime series to give the producers enough episodes to air as a daily syndicated series. Gough and Millar worked on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and Spider-Man 2 and

It looks like the rush to make more giant freakin fightin robot movies isn't over. Warner Bros. is getting serious about making a movie based on Robotech. Hr reports that they've gone out and hired Alfred Gough and Miles Millar to begin writing it. The duo is probably best know for their work on TV's Smallville, where they've been building geek cred for years. They also had some part in writing Spider-Man 2, a bullet point which is cancelled out by the fact that they're to blame for The Mummy 3. Still, there are fairly high-profile writers, a sign that they're willing to invest in actually getting this done. There was another Robotech script, written by Lawrence Kasdan, but it sounds like they're either ditching it and going with whatever Gough and Millar come up with, or hedging their bets and picking between the two. I haven't read it, but

All of Roger's stars On August 4 I wrote an article headlined "Is Roger Ebert Still Credible?" The article came out of ads I saw for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in which Roger Ebert gave the film 3/4 stars. I couldn't believe it. I knew Ebert was taking a much kinder approach to films since returning from his illness, but I never thought I would see him give such a bad film such a good grade. However, it didn't take me long to realize anyone can like a movie if said movie hits the right notes for that particular person and for Ebert he said of The Mummy 3, "It was just plain dumb fun, is why. It is absurd and preposterous, and proud of it." For him, that was enough, and who am I to argue or judge? It also teaches us to read an opinion before judging

The Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan-starring musical has proved a far bigger hit outside the U.S. - grossing a total of $307 million (GBP166 million) in foreign territories to date, compared to $139 million (GBP75 million) in American movie theatres.
Will Smith's Hancock is the second biggest hit of the week, grossing $10 million (GBP5.4 million), which lifts its global total to $375 million (GBP202 million).
Wanted - starring Angelina Jolie - finished third, followed by The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

If there is one franchise I hate more than almost all others, it's got to be the xXx franchise that began way back in 2002. I have never seen nor will ever see either the first xXx or xXx: State of the Union. In my mind, the first movie effectively began Vin Diesel's downfall into the world of The Pacifier. So I'm incredibly sad to report today that the idiots at Sony have decided to bring back director Rob Cohen, whose last film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was hated by all, and star Vin Diesel, whose last film Babylon A.D. flopped big, for a third film, titled xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. First things first, that sounds like a title for a porno more than anything, and secondly, how in the hell did this happen?! The funniest part of this news is that the studio has

Although “xXx: State of the Union” was a major disaster, Columbia Pictures thinks it’s time to make another “xXx” sequel and bring back Vin Diesel, according to Variety.
Yes, you read right. A third film about the extreme sports athlete recruited by the government is in early developmental stages, with Diesel and director Rob Cohen back in the game.
Cohen directed Diesel in the first film of the series in 2002, pulling in $106.2 million domestically. But they both refused to return for the 2005 sequel, which starred Ice Cube and totally crashed at the box office.
Although the third flick has no script yet, the working title is “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.” Plot details are unknown at this point.
Cohen most recently directed “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Diesel is currently onscreen in “Babylon A.D.” He will next be seen in Justin Lin’s “Fast & Furious.”

The bandwagon, revisionist, retroactive bashing of Superman Returns has flown to new heights of ridiculousness. This time it's Brendan Fraser running around pretending Superman Returns sucked, and apparently it sucked because it didn't have him in it. That's right, Brendan Fraser. Star of quality films like The Mummy 3. ComicBookMovie has the partial transcript of an interview in which Fraser claims he was offered the role of Superman before Bryan Singer came in and put together his take on the character. Fraser read the Jj Abrams script that Warner Bros was considering using, and waxes poetic about how much better it was than that terrible Superman Returns movie which everyone lavished with praise until it became fashionable to start hating it and pretend that no one went to see it... even though it didn't and they did. Welcome to the lynch mob, Mr. Fraser. Fraser claims the Abrams version was
