Samuel Fuller's follow-up to The Big Red One was shelved by Paramount Pictures before its scheduled release in 1982 because of fears that its premise -- a white dog has been trained to attack black people -- would stir up more controversy than box office. Fuller was understandably outraged; in his autobiography, A Third Face, he wrote: "The studio has used me as a scapegoat for their lack of determination and courage." The film, co-written by Curtis Hanson (La Confidential), with a score by the legendary Ennio Morricone, later received acclaim when it was released in Europe but never received a home video release in the Us and has rarely been seen here. Kristy McNichol plays an actress who adopts the dog; Paul Winfield is as an anthropologist who tries to reverse the training. Silly us X-Files fans trying to rationalize why The X-Files: I Want to Believe crashed and burned so badly this summer. It was too thoughtful! Too character-driven! Too focused on giving fans emotional closure, and not enough on slam-bang summer excitement! Long-time franchise producer Frank Spotnitz has a much easier and quicker answer: It was The Dark Knight's fault.
His theory goes thus: The X-Files opened a week after The Dark Knight broke all sorts of records and began its domination of the summer box office. What's more, the dark and brooding film was similar in tone to the caped juggernaut, and not the sort of counterprogramming that might nonetheless have had a chance in its wake. And so you get $21 million domestic.
Look, I'm probably as big a fan of I Want to Believe as you'll find around these parts; for fans of the show it was a lovely,

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Deciding which film to start this edition of On DVD Today with was not an easy one so I just took a look at the top seller at Amazon and Prince Caspian came out on top. For those that read my recent Blu-ray review you know I am not too keen on this flick the second time around and Sara really seems to loathe it in her DVD review. So, should you buy it? If you like long films that render themselves boring by the time you see it a second time then by all means step up to the plate. Wanted This is a title I can understand more people picking up, but as I said in my Blu-ray review, I still recommend you rent before you buy. This is a fun film for

Few thuds at the box office have seemed resounding this year than The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Sure, it's been nearly a decade since the show left the air, but the sequel made $130 million less around the world than its predecessor ($67 million) and made $10 million less in the United States during its entire run than the first X-Files movie made in its opening weekend.
Having said that, the movie made money internationally, and now that the DVD is coming out on Tuesday, it may not have been the big disaster we thought, although audiences sure didn't clamor for it in the U.S. when it was in theaters.
So logically, there's talk of another movie. Writer-producer Frank Spotnitz told MovieWeb where the series would have to go if given another chandce. "If we were to make one more feature," said Spotnitz, "I think we would definitely have to deal with alien colonization.

Having shared his future plans of another "The X-Files" movie, Frank Spotnitz now revealed that the development of the third "X-Files" film may depend on the DVD sales of "The X-Files: I Want to Believe". To Bloody-Disgusting, the popular sci-fi thriller series said about his belief of future film installment saying, "I think there very well could be more in the future. ...When the studio looks at the sales of the DVD that's when they will really decide to see if its worth risking."

Gabrielle Union and Frank Spotnitz Reunite to Produce NBC's New Series

After announcing its January schedule, NBC prepares to produce a new television series. It has been reported by Variety that the network has reunited "Bring It On" star Gabrielle Union and "X-Files" creator Frank Spotnitz to produce a yet-to-be-titled new series.
Variety further notes that Spotnitz will serve as the writer, while Union will star as a detective who must race to save someone's life before it's too late. The publication also reports that this new series will be produced by Universal Media Studios.
Frank Spotnitz and Gabrielle Union have once collaborated in producing ABC's "Night Stalker" during the 2005-2006 period. Union has several credits in television series, including as regular character Keesha Hamilton in "7th Heaven" and as guest character Renee Slater on the last season of "Ugly Betty". Meanwhile, Spotnitz is an award-winning television writer and producer who recently has produced "The X-Files: I Want to Believe".

On December 2nd Fox Home Entertainment will be releasing The X-Files: I Want To Believe on both DVD and Blu-ray. To help promote the release we chatted with writer-producer Frank Spotnitz who reveals his plans for another X-Files, if 20th Century Fox were to ever give the go to another sequel. Frank Spotnitz explains how they were pretty disappointed with the box officie numbers when X-Files hit theaters this past July. "We were all a bit disappointed, we had some indication that we were in for a rough time when The Dark Knight started to become the phenomenon that it is, and breaking records. The Dark Knight is a history making film at the box office, and we came out with our little dark film a week after. It was disappointing to be sure. But the film made something like 20 million domestically and close to 50 million overseas."

Writer Frank Spotnitz and actress Gabrielle Union have reunited for a new procedural drama that’s being developed at NBC. Union starred in ABC's short-lived reworking of the classic series Night Stalker, which co-starred Stuart Townsend and Spotnitz executive produced during the 2005-06 TV season. In the untitled series Union will play a detective who must race to save someone's life before it's too late. Spotnitz and Union collaborated on the idea and the project will be produced through Universal Media Studios. Spotnitz's credits include The X-Files, as well as ABC Family's recent mini Samurai Girl. New research has found that the number of British people who believe in UFOs, aliens and the supernatural outnumbers those who follow religion, reports The Daily Telegraph. Great International Poster for Dominic Sena's Whiteout

Warner Brothers recently released an international poster for Whiteout, a freezing cold comic book adaptation starring Kate Beckinsale that has been delayed for quite a while. Whiteout is based on Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber's graphic novel that Oni Press published in 1998. It was first announced early last year and was entirely shot and in the can by May of 2007. Since then, Warner Brothers has kept delaying it, pushing its release all the way to September of 2009. I'm not sure if we'll ever get to see it, but we at least have a fairly awesome poster to hold us over for another year. This reminds me a lot of the poster for The X-Files: I Want to Believe - but this time I actually want to see this movie. Take a look! Was it really 15 years ago that I was at the Jackson Hole burger restaurant on Third Avenue, having lunch with Fango managing editor Michael Gingold and talking about this new show on Fox called The X Files? I remember telling Mike how this series was unlike anything on television, an attempt to do true, go-for-the-throat horror whose two unknown leads managed to draw viewers in while increasing the sense of spooky realism.
By the end of that lunch, Mike had asked me to do an episode guide for the first season (The first of eight—Fango decided not to cover the last season), thus starting the relationship I have had with the magazine to this very day. 'X-Files 3' to Deal With Alien Colonization

If another "The X-Files" movie was to be made, it will most likely see the return of the aliens to the sci-fi film. Talking to MovieWeb in the promotional effort for "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" DVD version, writer/producer Frank Spotnitz states, "Yeah. I mean, if we were to make one more feature, I think we would definitely have to deal with alien colonization."
He also hints that the third movie may be the last of the series. "I would think so," he notes when asked whether "The X-Files 3" would be the final closure film. "It certainly would be designed to be the period on the sentence." Meanwhile, on the possible date the movie will come out, Spotnitz suggests late 2012 to be one of the potential release dates.
