Fun Stuff

Goofs:
Factual errors: With the power still out, it would have been virtually impossible for Trina to have printed the photographs from the pool party that she is later shown, by candlelight, hanging to dry. While she could conceivably have used some non-electric light source, she would need to be very skilled at doing so and that is something that no one who is used to working with an electric enlarger would know how to do effectively. more
Quotes:
Roger Thompson: I read somewhere that falling in love happens when someone sees you like you see yourself. more

In a nutshell: Trina calls Tom in Tokyo and gets Bobbie-the stewardess from last episode-instead. She tells her she'll talk to her husband when he gets home. When she arrives home after taking pictures at the lake, she finds Tom and his crew have arrived uninvited for a pool party. It's here that Tom reveals he slept with Bobbie since "she's on the list" and that he wasn't too crazy about Trina and Luke the last time. This creates tension we'll revisit later. As Bruce goes to teach Melinda the tricks of trading, Susan and Janet also see Roger go off to "work" with only Susan still knowing about Roger's unemployment. When Melinda asks how Bruce got to where he is, he explains when he was married young and a gas station attendant, a frequent customer provided enough interest in him to offer him a job as a trainee. "It's all about the relationships," concludes Bruce. During much of this episode, Susan and Bruce's teen daughter Laurie is at a softball game watching former teacher/potential lover Doug score a homerun and talking with a gal friend of his named Liz. Liz says Doug is slow in opening up and mentions of him being offered a permanent position at the school that he hasn't accepted yet. After the game, Laurie tells Doug to accept the job and asks about spending the night at his place. Doug wants to take it slow as we see them holding hands. Back to the adults, as Susan puts up wallpaper, Roger arrives as he explains that Janet's wanting to keep up with the Joneses has made him reluctant to tell her the truth. Susan tells she'll understand as Roger offers to fix the broken air conditioner. After that's done, the power goes out in most of Chicago (though the phone still works as Bruce calls at this point he's stuck downtown and will take a cab later). They notice the Deckers have a party and crash in as Tom and Trina are about to have an argument. As Tom fetches Roger some swimming trunks, Susan asks if Trina's okay. After Susan mentions Janet doesn't know Roger's here, Trina says, "Maybe honesty's overrated." At Janet's, she finds out Marshall Field can't accept her check so she calls the bank to confirm that Roger deposited his check like he does every Friday. After finding out otherwise, she goes to his former workplace and finds out everything from the secretary. Before we go back to that, let's go back to the pool party as we see Tom fume when he sees Trina making a move on his co-pilot who shares with her an interest in photography. She threatens revenge on her husband's time with Bobbie but eventually cops out knowing it wouldn't be right as she and Tom decide to be "exclusive" for a while. And then there's Susan and Roger as they hang by the pool as they talk about Susan and Bruce's Fourth of July night and how Bruce hadn't been that intimate for a while and then Roger saying how love is seeing someone as they are and accepts and then he notices Susan's sunburn and touches her shoulder to almost caress it. They then both leave separately at this point but not before Trina takes a picture of them together. Meanwhile at the bar that Bruce and Melinda hang out, Melinda wins at the card game with her coworkers and then at closing time offers Bruce to come to her apartment even after he says he's married. The next scene is of him arriving as Susan is finished with her wallpaper. Neither of them sleep together as Bruce says he had a burger. Just as well as Susan finds comfort in the air conditioner Roger fixed. And, oh yeah, when Janet confronts Roger about his keeping his status from her, she says she's hurt he didn't trust her as his wife and says she'll support him in his next endeavor. And even when the power comes back on, Janet turns them off as she and Roger enjoy their candlelit dinner...Well, first things first, I'm glad Doug is "taking it slow" with Laurie and I hope it will be a while before they go to his apartment. And it looks like whatever affairs take place will probably happen in the next episode or so. Things sure look to be heating up with many of the adult couples what with the heat wave! Glad to see Janet so understanding though I wonder how long that will last. Ditto about Trina and Tom's "exclusivity". Obviously with the teen boys still at "camp", we still haven't seen Samantha and her alcoholic mom. Wonder how long that will last. And what about Bruce and Melinda. Did they or didn't they? I guess we'll find out next episode so until then...
