The International Press Academy announced their nominees for the 13th Annual Satellite Awards and it is a mixed bag of snubs across the board and further proof the idea of separating Drama, Comedy and Musicals is just about the dumbest idea around as they are Really reaching by including Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist as a comedy or a musical. I would even say Happy-Go-Lucky and Vicky Cristina Barcelona don't fit the category. What was so funny about Poppy being attacked by her driving instructor? Where was the comedy in VCB? Gimme a break. it's going to be even worse when the Globes nominate something like High School Musical 3 and Mamma Mia! instantly giving them some kind of credibility. However, category distinction aside the absence of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button from all categories makes me wonder if any of these people even saw all the films. Take for

The nominees have been announced for the 13th annual Satellite Awards, presented by the International Press Association. It works very much the way the Golden Globes does (or is that do?), although there are awards in technical categories as well. The awards will be handed out on Sunday, December 14th in beautiful Century City, California.
The big news is probably that Meryl Streep has received nominations both Best Actress categories, for Doubt and Mamma Mia!, though I think most people would probably have assumed that much, given the weak year of performances (no offense to Kat Dennings, but does she really deserve a nomination for something based on Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist; does the film deserve three?). Mark Ruffalo also got the double dip, which wasn't expected, for The Brothers Bloom and What Doesn't Kill You.
Elsewhere, The Dark Knight got passed over for Best Picture, nabbing nominations for both Christopher Nolan and Heath Ledger.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say a lot of you probably know that The Dark Knight is coming out on DVD here in about ten days. The biggest movie of the year (and for my money, the most successful modern box office success when you consider its competition both in and out of theaters and the fast turnaround for DVD releases) officially comes out December 9th, and it will no doubt be the biggest DVD release ever. I don't think that can even be questioned.
It's also good timing for the Oscar pushes for the film, Christopher Nolan, and Heath Ledger.
To get you back in the mood for Gotham City, Bruce Wayne, The Joker, and the rest of the Nolanverse, here are seven great clips from bonus materials added to the DVD. All of these videos came to us by way of Trailer Addict, though they

Though quick to point out their show's characters and plotlines are "fictitious," NBC's long-running crime drama "Law & Order" is known for borrowing heavily from newspaper headlines.A prime of example of this methodology was a 1998 "L&O" episode titled "Tabloid," in which a female celebrity is killed in a car accident while being chased by the paparazzi. The episode aired just under a year after Princess Diana's death in August of 1997 on the show's 8th season. Additionally, the show Wednesday aired an episode titled "Falling," based on the New York City crane collapse last March that killed four people and injured 17 others. Now, in an a ...

New York, NY (NewsBahn) - Mary-Kate Olsen is reportedly pregnant. The 22-year-old star - who shot to fame alongside twin sister Ashley in hit Us TV show 'Full House' aged nine months - has sparked rumours she is expecting her first child after her weight shot up to 102lbs, according to National Enquirer magazine.
A source said: "Mary-Kate has been looking a lot rounder recently. It is good she has put on weight, because she previously suffered from anorexia, but a lot of people think she could actually be attempting to hide her pregnancy."
Mary-Kate has been dating New York artist Nate Lowman since the beginning of the year and is said to have been inspired to start a family by late actor, and close friend, Heath Ledger - who told her becoming a father was the most rewarding thing he had ever done.

400 Screens, 400 Blows is a weekly column that takes an in-depth look at the films playing below the radar, beneath the top ten, and on 400 screens or less. I'm thankful for Rachel Getting Married (300 screens), for making me feel as if I were at an excruciating wedding without actually having to be there, and for making me feel as if I knew the extraordinarily wounded lead character, Kym (Anne Hathaway), no matter how monstrous she acts sometimes. But most of all for making me feel something.
I'm thankful for The Dark Knight (345 screens), for being like a 1940s film noir, reflecting the utter despair we feel about the world in 2008, but for making it entertaining and making us feel as if there's still a tiny scrap of hope left. Mainly, I'm thankful for movies that took on despair as a theme, but didn't show it.
I'm thankful for smart villains, like Heath Ledger's Joker.

First off, Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for checking out the second batch of Oscar predictions. We had a Ton of good comments on the last installment and things have certainly changed since then as a large group of critics finally got their first glimpse of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Stephen Daldry's The Reader has now been seen and buzz surrounding Revolutionary Road really seems to be getting ... well ... buzzy. With both Milk and Australia in theaters you can now make up your own mind on those two as I really liked Milk and really disliked Australia. I also thought I should tell you I have an exclusive interview with Darren Aronofsky, director of The Wrestler, coming up next week as he made a stop here in Seattle this past Tuesday. If you haven't watched the trailer for that one yet do so right now. As I told Darren,

Late actor Heath Ledger's tragic death has reportedly inspired a new episode of U.S. TV crime drama Law & Order.
The show is notorious for basing its plots on headlining-grabbing events in New York - where the series is filmed.
And its newest inspiration comes in an upcoming episode that is "supposed to be about Heath Ledger", reports the New York Post.
A show insider explains the plot stars a male model who "has a great career and gets all the ladies (and) leaves a club with a girl".
The source adds, "They have sex and do drugs, and the next morning, his friend finds him dead."
Ledger died from a prescription drug overdose in January.

Here's one of those just because stories. After we ran the article over the weekend about Heath Ledger's Oscar push for The Dark Knight, a reader sent me this drawing and since I had a few minutes, I thought I'd share it. I believe it's pretty self-explanatory, although I have no idea where it came from originally.

Normally I wouldn't spend much time here talking about how Celebrity A said such and such about Celebrity B. But when Celebrity A is Michelle Williams and she's talking about Celebrity B, Heath Ledger, for the first time publicly since his death last year, it touched me enough I had to pass it along. Williams spends most of the interview (which takes place in upstate New York on a farm where she now lives) talking about her upcoming indie film Wendy & Lucy but when the topic eventually...

Heath Ledger's father fought back tears of pride as he paid tribute to his late son at a prizegiving in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday night.
Kim Ledger accepted a Best Actor prize on behalf of his son - who died in January - at the GQ Men of the Year Awards and struggled with his composure as he remembered his "beautiful boy".
Ledger was honoured for his performance as The Joker in Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight.
His father told the audience at the event that the actor loved playing the Batman baddie.
He stated, "He thrived everyday on set, humoured and sometimes intimidated the cast, but revelled in this opportunity to create and deliver a unique character."
Also honoured at the Aussie GQ prizegiving were Hugh Jackman, who claimed the night's People's Choice Man Of The Year and his Australia director Baz Luhrmann, who took home the Creative Force Of The Year accolade.

Warner Bros. has launched an ad campaign for The Dark Knight, lobbying for Oscar nominations in 15 different categories. A campaign for 28 different people, in front of and behind the camera, for those little golden statues for this year’s Academy Awards.
In the latest edition of Variety and various places around the internet you’ll more than likely find advertisements for Tdk as we approach nomination season for the annual Oscars night. From “Best Sound Mixing” to the prized “Best Picture,” Nolan and Co. hope to grab some well-deserved statues. Having delivered the highest grossing film this year, Warner Bros. is looking to help in that effort and spend some of that money on the heroes that brought The Dark Knight to the big screen.
Vying for a number of different awards, nearly every category it is eligible for has been suggested. The aforementioned “Best Picture” accompanies “Best Director” and

Michelle Williams seems to be legitimately trying to live a normal life with her daughter Matilda despite some tragic circumstances. So we couldn't agree more when in a recent Newsweek profile, the writer asks, "Don't you think it's time we gave Michelle Williams a little privacy?" Yes, of course we think it's time! However, rather conveniently, this question doesn't come up until the end of the article, once all talk of Heath Ledger and Matilda has been exhausted. And so Michelle struggles to find the words to describe her grief over the past year since Heath's accidental overdose: "It's so sad. I guess it's always changing. What else can I say? I just wake up each day in...
